Laos
Description: This was a series of cross-border reconnaissance and intelligence operations conducted by mixed Special Forces and LLDB teams beginning in September, 1965. As U.S. combat commitment to Vietnam increased, participating elements upgraded the intensity of operations by emplacing antipersonnel devices, engaging NVA or Pathet Lao personnel in open combat, performing B-52 bomb damage assessment, and controlling airstrikes. The project, aimed at countering NVA infiltration through Laos into South Vietnam, because the largest and most important Special Forces strategic reconnaissance and interdiction campaign in Southeast Asia. SHINING BRASS was renamed PRAIRIE FIRE in 1968 and finally PHU DUNG on 8 April 1971.
