More detail on this person: HAMPTON - George Garland Artis, CWO3, U.S. Army Ret., 69, passed away on Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.

Mr. Artis rose through the enlisted ranks, then served as an aviation warrant officer, receiving a Bronze Star and other meritorious awards.

He served two tours in the Vietnam War. He worked as DOL (Civil Service) serving Fort Eustis, Fort Monroe and Fort Story.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl D. Artis; four sons, Ronnie, Dwayne, Terrance and Byron Keith Artis; one daughter, Sharron L. King (Alexander); two stepsons, Alvin and Terry Harris; one step daughter, Tracy Horton (Frank); 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six sisters; four brothers; mother-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Joe; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke United Church of Christ in Sedley, Va.
