Elmer G. Anderson Funeral services for retired CW4
Elmer G. Anderson, 82, of Killeen will be held at
12:30 p.m. Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home
Chapel in Killeen with a U.S. Army chaplain
officiating. Burial will be at Central Texas State
Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Anderson died July 17. 2009, at a local
nursing home. He was born Jan. 6, 1927, at Craig
Township, County of Burt, Neb.
Mr. Anderson flew his first plane at age 16,
joined the Army in 1950 and became an aviator in
1959; he served in both the Korean and Vietnam
wars.
His awards include: Legion of Merit; Bronze Star
Medal; Army Commendation Medal with one Oak
Leaf Cluster; Air Medal with numerals 31; National
Defense service Medal with one Oak Leak Cluster,
Good Conduct Medal; Korean Service Medal with
three Bronze Service Stars; United Nations Service
Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal;
Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver and one
Bronze Service Stars; Armed Forces Reserve
Medal with 10-year device; Combat Infantry Badge;
Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation,
Master Army Aviator Badge; Presidential Unit
Citation; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
He retired in 1981 at Fort Hood, flew helicopters
to offshore oil rigs in Texas, Mississippi and
Louisiana.
He was active with Young Eagles, was an avid auto
mechanic, member of the Killeen Pilots
Association, Charter Member, Army Aviation Assn.;
Lifetime member, Hot Air Balloon Assn., and many
other aviation associations.
He attended church services at 19th Street Chapel
and Anderson Chapel on Fort Hood.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jean
Anderson of Killeen; daughter, Debi Sadler of
Corsicana; grandchildren Karen Richards and Katie
Short, both of Corsicana; great-grandchildren,
Dalton Barkley, Bryce Richards and Jaden Phillips,
all of Corsicana; and nieces Susan and Sandra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles
and Lena Anderson, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday
at the funeral home. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home
in Killeen is in charge of arrangements.
