Paul James Blair, 78, was born December 22, 1932
in Phoenix, AZ to John and Inez Blair.
He married his beautiful bride, Vera Catherine
Cram, on August 29, 1952.
He died July 25th, 2011 of congestive heart
failure with his loving wife of almost 59 years by
his side.
Paul was a Major in the Army and was a fixed-wing
and helicopter pilot for 23 years and served in
Vietnam, Korea and Okinawa. He also served tours
in Ft. Benning, GA; Ft. Belvoir, VA; Ft. Rucker,
AL; and Mineral Wells, TX.
Paul retired from the Army in 1973 and started a
new adventure in Alaska, moving to Glennallen in
1974 and flying for Wilson Air Service. He and
Vera started their own business in 1977,
Glennallen Hobby Shop and Glennallen LP Gas and
Appliance, which they ran with their girls. They
retired in 1997.
He was a beloved husband, survived by his wife
Vera, and father to six beautiful daughters who
also survive him; Deborah Suderman (Tim) of
McDonough, GA; Catherine Perrett (Charles) of
Glennallen, AK; Diana Swenk (Ralph) of Anchorage,
AK; Cheryl Sparks (Jim) of Glennallen, AK; Paula
Schamell (Jim) of Anchorage, AK; and Angela
Horvath (Dan) of Glennallen, AK. He is also
survived by 15 grandchildren; Lauren Stone,
Brandon Suderman, Marilyn Bell, Joseph Perrett,
Elizabeth Register, Jessica Carlson, David
Carlson, Julie Griffiths, Brian Sparks, Amy
Sparks, Austin and Breanna Sedillo, Josh, Dawn
and Sara Horvath, 9 great grandchildren; Ty, Riley
and Kiersten Register, Katy and Ethan Stone,
Malana and Logan Bell, Ethan Carlson and Kayden
Sparks. Paul is also survived by his sister
Imogene Muchmore, sister-in-law Eva Blair, and 10
nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Velma
Steel, Johnny, David, Leo and Merle Blair.
Pall Bearers: Ralph Swenk, David Carlson, Dan
Horvath, Josh Horvath, Jim Sparks, and Brian
Sparks.
