Bouldin USAF (Retired), 77, of Bay City, formerly
of La Grange, passed away at his home on
Saturday evening, January 22, 2011.
John was born in Brenham, Texas, on January 11,
1934, to Ralph Thomas and Noelie (Schuhmacher)
Bouldin. He spent his childhood in La Grange,
Angleton, and Brenham.
In October 1951, at the age of 17, John joined the
Air Force from which he retired at the age of 38,
honorably serving his country in both the Korean
Conflict and the Vietnam War. He graduated from
Officers' Candidate School in March, 1960.
He was stationed at various posts including SAC
Headquarters at Offutt AFB, Omaha, Nebraska;
Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX; Barksdale AFB,
Shreveport, LA; Zaragoza AFB, Spain; Incirlik AFB,
Adana, Turkey; and Athenai AFB, Athens, Greece.
A
fter his military retirement, John and his family
moved to La Grange in 1972.
John was very active in the community,
instrumental in the building of the City Library,
a Bicentennial project, and an active member of
Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School.
Business ventures in the automotive business
brought the family to Bay City in 1979.
Researching the Bouldin and Schuhmacher family
histories was his passion for many years, tracing
his ancestry back to England and Germany and
writing several books to share his findings with
extended family.
In late November of 1956, John met Barbara Jane
McNiel of Chappell Hill, Texas. After a three-week
courtship, they eloped in Waller, Texas on
December 22. They were blessed with 52 years of
marriage until Barbara's passing in early
December, 2009.
Mr. Bouldin is survived by: three daughters,
Joanna Bouldin, of Bay City, his care-giver for
the past two years, Cindy Tomek and her husband,
Gregg of Bay City, Diana Fitzpatrick and her
husband, Michael of La Grange; son, Mark Harris
and wife Debbi, of Cameron; four granddaughters;
six grandsons; one great-granddaughter; two aunts;
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and
special friend and care-giver, Judy DeLoach of Bay
City.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; both
parents; his brother, Tommy; and sister, Barbara
Bouldin Farris; and his daughter, Laura Ann
Bouldin Karlman.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011,
at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in La Grange.
The burial will follow at Rutersville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made
to the American Heart Association, Houston
Hospice, or a charity of one's choice.
