entered the ARMY after graduating from Seton Hall
University in 1970. He attended the Infantry
Officers Basic Course at Fort Benning, Ga. prior
to graduating from Rotary Wing Fight Training at
Ft. Rucker, Alabama in March, 1972. He served as
an OH-6 pilot with F/8th in Viet Nam. Upon
returning home, Tom continued his Federal Service
as a Secret Service Agent until his retirement.
survivors: Tom is survived by his loving wife
Barbara, a son and a daughter. While originaly
from New Jersey, I believe they reside in Vienna,
Virginia. Tom was a loving husband and father, a
skillful pilot and a good friend.

DOUGHERTY Thomas Dougherty, 59, Secret
Service agent
OBITUARY
Thomas Edward Dougherty, 59, of Highlands, N.J.,
husband of Barbara Fleming Dougherty and formerly
of Lincroft, died Sunday, Jan. 6.
The friends and family of Thomas E. Dougherty are
invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at
11 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church,
Highlands, N.J. Prayers of final commendation and
farewell will follow in Brigadier General William
C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the John F. Pfleger Funeral
Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Friends may
call at the Middletown Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Wednesday.
A graduate of Seton Hall University, Tom was a
member of the Pershing Rifles. He was a lieutenant
in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam as a
helicopter pilot, and was awarded the Bronze Star.
A retired U.S. Secret Service agent, he was
currently assistant special agent in charge of the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Tom was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic
Church and belonged to the Vince Lombardi
Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and
Leona Dougherty, and his son, Thomas Dougherty
III in 2007. Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara;
their daughter, Katie Dougherty of St. Paul,
Minn.; their son and daughter-in-law, James and
Anne Dougherty of St. Paul, Minn.; their
daughter-in-law, Andie Dougherty of Mount
Pleasant, S.C.; their grandchildren, Seamus, Finn
and Mary Jeanne Dougherty of St. Paul, Minn., and
Connor Dougherty of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; his
sister and brother-in-law, Marion and John
Dougherty of Bristol, Va.; his brother and
sister-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Dougherty of
Denville, N.J., and his brother and sister-in-law,
John and Maureen Dougherty of Clark, N.J. Tom is
also loved and will be missed by many friends and
family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials
be made to "The Connor Dougherty Education
Fund," c/o The Dougherty Family, 2118 James
Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105.
