More detail on this person: Terence "Terry" A. Hogan February 11, 2025 Terence "Terry" A. Hogan, 79, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday. Born on June 9, 1945, in Syracuse, Terry was one of 15 children of the late John E. Hogan and Vivian Ransier Hogan. He graduated from Vocational High School in 1963, where he met the love of his life, Gloria Cimino Hogan, his devoted wife of 60 years. Terry's passion for flight led him to a distinguished 33-year career in the U.S. Army, serving from 1963 to 1996. As a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division's Combat Aviation Brigade, he served multiple tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and held assignments that took him and his family across the globe. He retired with the esteemed rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5 and was a recipient of the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star, among other honors. A lifelong learner, Terry was inspired by his mother's career as a teacher and was a voracious reader with a deep appreciation for history, science, mechanical engineering, and literature. He loved a good debate, particularly on the ideals of American democracy, often engaging in spirited discussions at the 19th hole of a golf course. A gifted storyteller and a lover of song, Terry brought warmth, wisdom, and laughter to all who knew him. Terry was predeceased by 13 siblings and many other beloved family members. Surviving are his wife, Gloria; daughters, Patricia Hogan of Ann Arbor, MI, Kathleen Hogan of Brecksville, OH, Theresa Hogan of Carbondale, IL, and Brenda Hogan of Seville, OH, along with their spouses; eight cherished grandchildren; sister, Kathy Ptak of Oswego; and many nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Syracuse VA Hospital for the compassionate and respectful care Terry received.
