Dad passed on seven years ago and my mom moved from Palm Coast, FL to Salina, KS recently and
took dad with her. In Vietnam dad commanded the 228th Avn Bn, 1st Cav Div in 1967 and he was also
so the Dept G-3, 1st Cav Div in 1966 and G-3, 1st Avn Brig in 1970-71 while I was in Vietnam. He
flew everything from the L-5 Stinson Sentinal to the OV-1 Mohawk, from the OH-13D at Camp Campbell,
1955, to the Chinook in Vietnam. He worked on the UTAS (UH-60 and UH-61), the CH-62 and the AFES

So he did a lot for Army Aviation and we got a Huey on his headstone.
He flew tail gunner on SBD Douglas Daughtlesses and Curtis Helldivers during WWII and was injured
during a Kamakazi attack on board the USS Bunker Hill during the battle for Okinawa. He also
commanded at 8 Inch howitzer battery in Korea in 1951 before he went to flight school in 1954. In
all he served 3 years active Navy, 4 years Navy Reserve and 29 (1950-1979) years Army and retired as
an O-6.
