More detail on this person: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Major General Richard E Stephenson on 20 January 2023. General Stephenson was a highly decorated and respected military leader, who dedicated his life to serving his country with distinction. Born on 17 October 1935, General Stephenson along with his brother John and sister Sandra attended the Masonic Home in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1957 and went on to serve in the Artillery branch before transitioning to the Transportation Corps for over 34 years of service. During his time in the military, General Stephenson was stationed in various locations around the world to include Korea, Vietnam, Iran and served in numerous high-level positions to include 1st Cavalry Division's DISCOM Commander, J4 for the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force (RDJTF) which transitioned into the U.S. Central Command, Commanding General of the 3rd Support Command in Frankfurt, Germany and Commanding General of the Army's Aviation System Command. General Stephenson's military career was marked by numerous awards and recognition for his exceptional leadership and courage. He earned numerous awards and decorations to include the Senior Army Aviation Badge with over 2500 hours to include combat in Vietnam, the Airborne badge and the Defense Superior Service Medal. His selfless service and unwavering commitment to the defense of his country inspired many, and he will be remembered as a true American hero. In addition to his military career, General Stephenson was also a loving husband to Dianne and father to Tracy and Richard II, who cherished his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. A celebration General Stephenson's life was held at his daughter's home in Stuttgart, Germany on 29 January and he will be interned next to his wife in Weston, CT. He requested that any donations be made in his memory to the Army Aviation of America Assoication's Dianne Stephenson Scholarship fund. Rest in peace, Major General Richard E Stephenson. Your service and bravery will never be forgotten.
