He started his flight class in Lackland/Ft. Wolters, TX in Jan 1970 and graduated in Sep 1970. He returned home and immediately served in the 213th Helicopter Squadron/51st Tactical Wing/1st Air Division in Da Nang Air Base (Bell UH-1 Iroquois). Sadly, my Dad died while flying in one of his many missions in Jul 1971. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of Captain.
After the fall of Saigon, the communist government confiscated quite a bit of my Dad's paperwork, documentations, and mementos (like his flight suit when he died, his helmet...). I am not sure how much of his official documentation is left in my Mom's possession (I will check with her), but I remembered seeing pictures of my Dad in his official uniform during his graduation from his US flight school. According to my Mom, most if not all of the men served in my Dad's squadron sadly died during the Vietnam War.
