Description: Over BIRD from the start of the action was the one TOC ship with CPT Jack Sutton aboard. Initially he could not help much because the valley was pitch black. CPT Elmo Roberts, the pilot of a ? H-13, and CPT James J. Weber, the S-2 19th ARTY, arrived over BIRD at 0117H. The 'Request ARA to scramble' message arrived at LZ Hammond when the 2/20th ARA had only one ship up, so WO Long and LT Borgeson headed directly for BIRD while MAJ Ray Pollard got four others up. The ACH-47, Guns A GO GO, sent at least one ship into the battle.
