Operation CEDAR FALLS
South Vietnam
Location, Ben Suc
Description: The 1st AVN Bn directed the 60 lift and 10 gunships in two giant V formations loaded with the 1/26th Inf. Skipping the usual preparatory bombardment to achieve surprise, they landed in the midst of Ben Suc. The VC were too stunned to react though there were snipers and minefields to deal with. A thorough search of the village uncovered a massive supply complex, three levels of storage rooms were found. CH-47s and Vietnamese patrol boats removed 6,000 villagers and the 1st Eng Bn bulldozed the village. This was the first objective of CEDAR FALLS.
