Operation QUYET THANG
South Vietnam
Location, Saigon
Description: This was the largest operation to date. QUYET THANG (Resolved to Win) was conducted in the Saigon area and the five surrounding provinces. Elements of the 1st, 9th, and 25th Infantry Divisions; ARVN 5th and 25th Divisions, ARVN airborne battalions, and the Vietnamese Marines combined. There were a total of 22 U.S. and 11 ARVN battalions conducting this post-Tet clearing operation to mop up pockets of rebels. 2,658 known enemy casualties were claimed (3,387 in another source plus 36 POWs). The 1st Inf Div suffered 29 KIAs and 332 WIAs while the 25th Inf Div had 50 KIAs and 396 WIAs.
