Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1969 issue. Americal Division forces and supporting elements killed 49 enemy and found the body of one other in scattered action in the southern I Corps on Dec 27. Brave and Bold soldiers of the 198th LIB and supporting gunship crews reported 14 NVA regulars and 11 VC killed in scattered action in the Binh Son-Tien Phuoc areas. Aero scouts from the 123d CAB reported 11 VC and seven NVA soldiers killed in eight incidents. Riflemen from the 1/52nd Inf killed five NVA soldiers in three incidents centered seven miles west of Tam Ky. They also captured four weapons including one light machinegun and 16 grenades. Two other enemy were killed by the riflemen near Tam Ky. Soldiers from the 196th LIB killed 15 VC and two NVA soldiers in scattered contacts around Hoi An. Seven VC were killed when artillery was directed on their position eight miles west of Tam Ky. Riflemen from the 1/46th Inf unearthed three caches totalling 4,500 pounds 11 miles southwest of Hoi An. Other brigade units killed eight VC and two NVA soldiers in scattered contacts.
