Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1969 issue.
Infantrymen from the 25th Infantry Division reported light contact during the week as they killed 28 enemy soldiers. Tropic Lightning soldiers of the 25th Div killed 10 enemy and found the bodies of three others in light action on Dec 24. All 10 enemy were killed by a division patrol six miles north of Cu Chi. The patrol began receiving fire at 7:40 p.m. from a group of VC moving down a road. As they returned fire, the U.S. riflemen spotted 10 enemy in a sampan on the nearby Saigon River. They opened fire on the sampan, killing all 10 enemy, as the sampan was destroyed by a secondary explosion. On Dec 27, soldiers of the 25th Div killed four enemy during light and scattered action. Three of the enemy were killed as elements of the 1/27th Inf engaged a group of NVA soldiers five miles northeast of Dau Tieng. The fighting began at 2:20 p.m. and continued until 5 p.m. with artillery and gunship crews supporting.
