Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1969 issue. Gunship crews from the 164th CAG reported killing 23 VC, sinking 16 sampans and destroying 67 enemy fortifications in scattered actions in the Mekong Delta on Dec 26. Chopper gunners from B/7/1st Air Cav. reported killing 30 VC in a single action 25 miles north of Ca Mau in Tinh Choung Tjien Province. They also sank nine sampans and destroyed two enemy fortifications. Crews from A Troop of the same squadron operated in western Tinh Kien Giang Province, and reported destroying 13 structures and sinking three sampans in scattered contacts. Cobra gunship crews from the 307th CAB's 235th AWC flew several mission in an area centered 18 miles southeast of Can Tho. In six strikes, the crews reported killing three VC, sinking four sampans and destroying 52 enemy fortifications. Gunship crews from the 212th CAB's 282nd AHC were flying a night reconnaissance mission early yesterday morning when they detected enemy movement near Quang Ngai City.
