Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1969 issue. Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division killed 12 enemy and captured seven individual weapons in light action on Dec 26. Eleven enemy were killed in two ambush contacts initiated by men from the 2/502nd Abn in an area centered two miles south of Phu Bai. The riflemen also captured seven individual weapons. In the only other contact, the crew aboard the 2nd Bde's command control helicopter reported killing one enemy six miles northwest of Hue. A combined cordon operation seven miles east of Hue by U.S. soldiers and members of the 1st ARVN Div has resulted in 48 enemy killed and 48 suspects detained. The cordon is aimed at routing VC infrastructure personnel. Screaming Eagles of the 101st Abn Div killed two enemy and found the bodies of four others in light action on the following day.
