Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 13 Jan 1969 issue. On Dec 26 elements of the 199th LIB's 2/3rd Inf located a cache buried in a metal container eight miles southwest of Saigon yesterday. It included several rocket motors, and a small amount of web gear and TNT. In addition, five bunkers were destroyed along with a small amount of miscellaneous supplies. In other brigade action, one VC was killed and three sampans destroyed in two separate encounters west of Saigon. Redcatchers of the 199th LIB found two large munitions caches while operating southeast of Saigon yesterday. One cache was found buried in barrels 16 miles west-southwest of Saigon by elements from the 3/74th Inf. It contained mortar rounds, 75mm recoilless rifle rounds, 25 pounds of TNT and 1,000 grenade detonators. The second cache was found by elements from the 2/3d Inf 15 miles west-southwest of Saigon. It contained 62 mortar rounds, four AK-47 rifles, eight Chicom grenades and a small quantity of other munitions.
