Description: As part of APACHE SNOW, B/3/187th Inf, 101st Airborne Div moved up Hill 937; also known as Ap Bia Mountain but soon dubbed Hamburger Hill by the soldiers who fought there. Their approach was shattered by machine-gun fire from unseen bunkers. They extracted their casualties and moved off the hill as artillery and air bombarded the area. The ten-day battle for Ap Bia Mountain had begun.
